Homehomehome

Soo I'm back from aza. I'm not as jetlagged as I thought I'd be. Yesterday I got to see SARAH PAI =D We have an extreme list of things we have to complete before I go to Chinaaaaa.

Thailand was pretty awesome. We didn't get to be on our own as much as we were in Singapore, but we still had some free time and got to go explore Bangkok on our own... Though we mostly just shopped. And saw Up in 3-D... I'm glad we got to do some planned things we wouldn't have been able to do on our own, like visit the United Nations and see a border school at the Thailand/Burma border. We got to talk to people who work at refugee camps, too. The touristy stuff was ok, like the Grand Palace etc. When we went to Kanchanaburi and Ratchaburi, we had to stay in this hotel which was basically a love shack. We had mood lighting in our room among other things. We were supposed to get to hike through the jungle, but the park rangers decided our group was too big so instead we had to climb 586 stairs (yes, I counted) to get to a cave. The cave at least was cool. We had to shimmy through a crevice to get in. I miss everyone already :( It's not the same to wake up and not see little Nina in the bed next to me, or running away from someone's feet. Or seeing Lea dance to Wonder Girls and cover herself from head to toe with a jacket in order to keep bugs away. I almost even miss shielding myself from Danielle's wrath =P Or making fun of Nicole... I DON'T TALK LIKE THAT =P Hong Kong was aight, after seeing Singapore it wasn't that awesome. It was like Singapore but bigger. Really clean, and lots of buildings, etc. If I was rich I could have shopped there haha. Oh geez, I'm having shopping withdrawls here after being in Thailand. I almost had a heart attack when I got to the airport and had to spend $2.24 on a bottle of water, instead of 10 baht. Even in Singapore a water bottle was only Sing $0.16 at the canteen D= Why is America so expensiveeeeeee?! I saw dresses just like the ones I got in Thailand for $3 for $25 at South Park yesterday. When I go to China I'll have to get a new wardrobe fo cheapz.

I'm killing time now until I go see Sarah againnn. We're going somewhere scandalous this afternoon. Then tonight we're going out again. We might go see The Ugly Truth... I'm behind on my movies. I haven't even seen Harry Potter 6 yet since it came out while I was in Thailand. Oh yea, in Thailand before a movie starts, you have to stand up while they play the national anthem and show a slideshow of pictures of the king. The whole monarchy thing there is cray. I bet my blog will be blocked now in Thailand because of that comment.

I MISS DELILA ELSAYED D= I won't get to see her until I come home from Chinaaaa. Why must you live in Saudi Arabia?! I'm sorry I tore apart our family. I know you and Irritator will be waiting for me to return... He won't love Kitty as much as he loves me XD

I'm a blog fail

So I'm a fail and haven't really posted anything. I left Singapore last week. I'm going to miss Josephine so muchhhh. I won't get to see her until fall 2010! That's so long from now. Singapore was fun, but I was ready to leave the air conditioned nation and go to Thailand. I was sad that when I felt like I was beginning to know how to get around Singapore on my own is when I had to leave, though. I miss all of the malls and restaurants... They were everywhere. I met Josephine's friends, too. They were really nice and fun.

I went to Malaysia one weekend, which was really different. Developmentally it was especially different from Singapore, and closer to Thailand's development I'd think. We mostly went to the night market and to a bunch of colonial landmarks. Stuff was cheap there... They had McDonald's ice cream cones for 1 ringgit, which is about 33 cents USD. We had to bicycle through a forest for like 20km. It was intense. I'm surprised I survived.

I miss Yong and Nadiah! They were awesome. The Singapore zoo was really cool too. My favorite were the orangutans.

Now I'm in Thailand, which is really different. Ordering food and such is difficult, since I don't know Thai. I usually end up with fried rice, since that's all I can say in Thai, unless I can point to food or to a picture. Shopping is pretty cheap. I fail at bartering, though. I'm too nice. I need to shop more with Nina, she's an intense bargainer. We went on a boat ride and did some other touristy stuff. We also saw a presentation about the Burmese refugees, which was really interesting. Tomorrow we're going to the UN to talk about refugees too. That should be interesting. I can't wait to go to the grand palace and to Kanchanaburi. I can't wait to go to Hong Kong either!

I really want to see Up! but it's hard to find a showing here =( We tried tonight, but failed, because the last showing at the imax was really early.

I've been so busy with school and stuff. I went to Chinatown and Little India. We saw a bunch of temples and a mosque. One of the temples had one of Buddha's teeth inside. In Chinatown we also got one of those fish pedicures where you stick your feet into a pool of fish and they eat the dead skin off. There are tons of fruit juices. I really like pineapple juice and dragon/kiwi juice. They make it fresh right in front of you. I was interviewed by a newspaper today too. We had to watch this Chinese acrobat show. I expected contortion and gymnastics. It was mostly people pushing giant shapes around and making big tangrams. I was bored most of the time. Nothing especially exciting has happened yet. I went around the city with Josephine the other night, that was fun. I might see her again tomorrow night. A ton of signs are in Chinese, and I hear it everywhere. I need to brush up on it. I'll add pictures. I also went to an Asian history museum...or something. I forgot my camera that day, though. The exhibits were cool, but the guide went too fast and skipped most of the museum, so I didn't really get to see much. I need to go do reading so I'll have tomorrow night FREE.

hot hot heat

Singapore is soooo humid. It feels like a sauna 24/7. It's really nice though. Everything is really organized and landscaped. NUS's campus is sooo awesome. It's so much cooler than UNC. Everything looks so new and modern. They even have glass rooms for people to go in to talk on their cell phones in the library. My room is a single with air conditioning and its own bathroom. Apparently the first case of swine flu was found in Singapore today. Now we have to take our temperatures every morning and report them to prove that we don't have swine flu. Today for breakfast I ate a cheese and mushroom prata with a banana milkshake. Lunch was pigs belly with rice, and lychee tea. I tried almond/mint milk too. For dinner I had chicken with egg and rice, and fish soup and pineapple juice. There are so many fruits. We went to the botanical gardens today, too. I would upload pictures but I'm too lazy. I fail at blogging, I'm too tired to really write much. I'm still jet lagged and have to read my assignments for tomorrow morning.

I'm in ASIAAA

I'm in Hong Kong! We landed a bit ago at the airport. We're waiting to fly to Singapore in a few hours. We had a 5 hour flight, then a 14.5 hour flight, which wasn't bad. Cathay Pacific is awesome. There's so much entertainment aha. Tons of movies and TV shows and games, much cooler than British Airways. But the seats are hard...which made sleeping painful. It's so cool how I can see mountains from the windows here. Too bad it's raining and gross weather. I'm so awake for 6am. Jet lag's going to be a bitch tonight. I still have yet to EAT anything here... nothing's open this early =(

It's almost time to gooo...

Today was my last day home! I'm a bit sad that I didn't spend that much time with my family, though. Sarah and I went window shopping, then ran into a boy with sweet supras. We asked him where he got his shoes, and got lost in Charlotte trying to find the store. Actually, we got lost trying to leave Charlotte, we found the store just fine. They really need to make better girls' shoes. There's always a wall of guy's shoes, and a shelf for girls. Anyways, they didn't have the ones we wanted, so we just made some online. I'll add a picture =D I can't wait to get them in the mail...they're flossy XD I added that for Oanh. Manuel, Melissa, and I watched some movies. They were crazy. The last one was pretty good, "Wristcutters: A Love Story." Sounds depressing, but it's not. I should be asleep now. I need to get up in about 7 hours to get ready....to leave the countryyyy. The flight is going to be so long... Good thing I printed out the pre-class reading...even though I probably should have already read it. We got an email today saying we might get to learn to box in Thailand. SWEET. Next time I add something, it'll probably be from Singapore!

First Post. xcore.

So I decided to make this so I can write about the EXTREME things I'll be doing in ASIA during my study abroad. I can't wait to eat...and eat...and eat :O I'm all packed. Tomorrow's my last day in the USA. I'm going to picnic with Sarah...then who knows what will happen. I sure don't. That's how intense the night will be.
